TERMS:

FULCRUM - A pivot about which a lever rotates. Usually represented by a triangle.

Resistance = R

Effort = E

Length Resistance has to travel, usually in a plane = L

Height Resistance ends up traveling, usually in a plane = H

Distance from fulcrum to the Resistance = D R

Distance from fulcrum to the Effort = D E

Work Input = W I

Work Output = W O

Height Resistance travels = H R

Height Effort travels = H E

Actual Mechanical Advantage = AMA

Ideal Mechanical Advantage = IMA ( When there is no friction )

To balance a First Class Lever

R x D R = E x D E

W I = W O ( When there is no friction )

W I = E x D E

W O = R x D R

EFF = EFFICIENCY

EFFICIENCY = W O   /    W I      x     100
