OBJECT:

To construct an INCLINED PLANE from two boards, with a plastic hinge.

MATERIALS:

Safety Goggles, Use a large board to work on, ( or a work bench or an old table ) Two boards, about 6 inches wide, one foot and two feet in length, Three plastic strips, one 4 inch by 6 inch plastic strip, with a line down the middle, will serve as hinge; the other two strips 1½ inch by 6 inch, will serve to reinforce the plastic hinge (from plastic gallon ), Small nails or tacks, Make sure that your nails are shorter then the thickness of the board ! Hammer, Later you will need a protractor, A set of books.

PROCEDURE :

1. Take the 4 inch by 6 inch plastic strip, make a line at two inches, place it on the one foot board so that 2 inches hangs over; now, at the very edge ( left side of line on the plastic ) put two nails to secure the plastic. Now place the 2 foot board under the plastic hinge, and secure this side at the opposite end, at the very edge, with two tacks. Now, take the 1 ½ inch plastic and place it on the hinge ( on the one foot board side ) leave a 1/8 inch gap from the line drawn on the plastic hinge, and secure this side of the reinforcement hinge. Take the 1 ½ plastic strip and place it on the other half of the hinge, leave a 1/8 inch gap from the line on the hinge; and secure this side of the hinge.

2. When using your INCLINED PLANE, use a protractor, so that you can set the angle of the inclined plane, measure your angle from under the board, be sure to set the protractor at the point of the end of the first board. Use books to prop up the end of the board, and to make adjustments to the angle.
