PHYSICAL BEHAVIOR of MOLECULES
(GASES)
1. All gases are made up of very small particles called molecules.
2. On the average the distances between molecules are much larger than the longest dimension of the molecules.
3. Molecules exert a slight attractive force on each other.
4. Molecules are in constant, rapid, random motion in a straight line.
5. In any collection of gas molecules there is a wide range of speed.
6. At a given temperature the average kinetic energy of molecules of different gases is the same.
K = 1/2 M V2
Where K = kinetic energy
M = mass of molecule
V2 = Velocity of molecule squared
This theory helps to explains - Diffusion and Compressibility of gases. .
