OBJECT:
How to make a lens holder, for the Optical Bench.
MATERIALS:
1. SAFETY FIRST: I would suggest that your parents do any cutting, plastic is a little difficult to cut, and there is a possibility of injury to small fingers. A large section of plastic from a plastic milk or water container, measuring 6 inches by 5 inches, Scissors, Large safety pin, Coins, Fine point magic marker, Stapler, pliers.
PROCEDURE:
1. Draw an axis line, so that the 6 in. section is divided in half. Fold in half using your fingers, and the axis line as a guide. Repeat the fold with a pair of pliers, to strengthen the fold.
2. Using a large safety pin, make a hole in center of this folded plastic, now measuring 3 in. by 5 in.
3. Use a coin that is slightly smaller then the lens that you will be using, place it over the pin hole, and trace the coin on to the plastic, repeat for the other side
CAUTION: To be done by an ADULT.
4. Using a pair of good Scissors, insert the scissors into the pin hole, and start cutting in a circular fashion, until you get the to the out line of the coin mark, complete the cut out. Then, repeat the procedure on the other side.
5. Carefully place your lens over the cut out hole, fold your other plastic half over the lens. Then using your stapler, staple the two halves, so that the lens remains in the center, three staples should be sufficient.
