THE GREAT COMMUNICATOR

(No, not a former president)

One of the things that all of us are faced with every day, in our social contacts, is the way we communicate with one another. The question that could be asked of us; how effective are we as communicators? We have at our disposal thousands of words by which we can express ourselves. And yet, sometimes, we still have difficulty in getting our ideas across. Have you ever asked for directions or given complicated directions, you probably know what I am talking about.

The little honey bee, on the other hand, has a very limited vocabulary and yet it is an amazingly effective communicator. You might ask; how is this possible? When the honey bee finds a source of nectar it is probably very eager to share this important information with the hive. And it does this by a belly dance, making half circles patterns, by the way, all of the directions are given with reference to the sun. Before you know it, the little bee has an audience and the directions are being memorized by others. A question might be asked, and that is, how will the bees know if they have found the right spot? The reason why the little bee is so convincing in her directions and others are so earnest in hearing it, is because, she has brought a sample with her. The pollen and especially the fragrance of the nectar is probably the most convincing piece of information that is presented. So then, the most effective communication that the bee has , is the fragrance of the nectar that she brings back to he the hive. John 12:3 "Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment." And every individual that was present in the room was also exposed to this fragrance. And, if you were to meet that person on the street, you no doubt would notice the fragrance on that person.

You know, that if you spend some time in the bakery shop or if some one at home is baking bread or pastry and when they leave the kitchen. When you meet that individual, you immediately know where this person has been spending his time, simply by the aroma on that person. We too, can become more effective communicators of the gospel, if we have the fragrance of Christ in our lives. To get this fragrance we must spend time with our Lord and Savior. This, will enable us to become more effective communicators of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. We can witness or explain to some one, how to be saved. We can give all kinds of directions on how to find Christ. But, unless they can sense the fragrance of Christ in our lives, we will not be as convincing as we could be. Because, we fail to have a sample of our Christ in our lives. One has to remember, that as the fragrance cannot be faked, or imitated we either have it or we don't. And the only way to get it is to spend time with our Lord. There is something else about fragrances, and that is after a period of time they fade, just like any expensive perfume. So, in order to have this fragrance of Christ in our lives continually, we must be spending time with Him on a daily basis. We don't want to be caught without our sample fragrance to be totally effective communicators, because words alone will not do. This fragrance should permeate our lives, so that, we too can become known as the great communicators!
