Rose Song
Author Unknown
The autumn sun and whispering breeze
Beckoned, "Come into the garth.
Linger a moment beneath the trees
Rise up from your seat at the hearth.
Reclaim a sense of peace and joy
Observe the beauty around you.
Let go the need to fill the void.
Be aware of all that surrounds you.
Listen to what the plants will say
Open your heart to hear
Celestial songs they'll sing today
A celebration lacking fear".
I focused
not on celestial song
But on work that needed done
Indeed I noticed all that was wrong
In the cooling autumn sun.
Blossoms faded unobserved
Just reminded me of how
I neglected care the plants deserved.
My mood was plummeted down.
I'd missed the beauty of blossoms past.
I let it slip by me somehow
Knowing that beauty fades so fast.
Remorse grabbed at my thinking now.
Too long
these plants had held their joy
Silent they would not remain
Their message carried on celestine voice
Grown louder with each refrain.
They cared not a whit that I'd passed by
Not noticing at all their sheen
They knew of their own special beauty
Without the need to be seen.
They knew what they were, and cared not a whit
For praise of the beauty they express
The purpose they knew in life is to live
The roses sang it the best.
