The Flowers of Friendship

What have I that I may give?
What tiny thing of some great worth
That will live on endlessly
When I am long gone from this earth?

I have not silver or gold;
No map of buried treasure chest.
What, then, can I give away
Before I'm at last laid to rest?

What have I that I may give
To touch men's hearts with love divine,
To stir even one man's breast
Or cause one small child's eyes to shine?

I can give flowers of friendship---
The petals dropped along the way,
To bring a smile, a tear, a thought,
Whose echoes pass on day by day.

Like stones dropped in a placid pool
Make ripples carried to the sea,
So will my friendship flowers touch---
Then move onward endlessly.
