The Upper Dublin Magpie team was established in the Spring of 1996 by Coach JR Schroeder.  (The “Magpies” nickname is taken from that of the storied English Premier League Newcastle United Football Club.)  Tryouts were held, and the team selected represented the finest Under-10 boys in the township.

The objective of the Magpies team is to play attractive soccer.  By that we mean creative, attacking soccer in which the team operates as a cohesive unit.  We want to develop a quality soccer player whose love for the game will take him through high school, college, amateur play and coaching.  Ultimately, the goal is for each player to be recognized by other coaches as “He can play;” this phrase carries a connotation of respect amongst accomplished players and knowledgeable coaches.  All players will come from the Upper Dublin (PA) community.  Our intention is to grow from within and not to recruit to advance.  As a team, our sights are set on winning the EPYSA State Cup competition in the Spring of 2000, and using this as a springboard to qualify for national regional competition.

Another goal of the program is to be sensitive to the youth on our team. We recognize that the Magpie players are on the path to adulthood and, as such, should not be “overused” in practice or extended beyond their physical capabilities in training. “No Pain, No Gain” is not part of our dogma. Our lads are still maturing and need time to develop. Further, not all kids are on the same developmental schedule, and we must be sensitive to individual differences.

On the following pages of this site, you will be introduced to the current Magpie team as well as those who formed the early Magpie teams.  Review our past performances, in both league and tournament activities, and see how the 1997 Fall squad is faring.  Our goal was, and continues to be, to develop committed, creative soccer players whose passion for the game will remain with them for the rest of their lives.  So kick off cleats and relax!  Browse the entire site and get to know us.  As you will see, the Magpies are on course for even greater successes.  Come follow our journey.

Watch the Magpies head on down the road to success!
