In 1996, I was planning a website that would feature the work of artists living and working in southern New Jersey. The site was to be called Bibelot (pronounced Bib'Lo or Beeb'ah lo), which means a small object valued for its beauty or rarity. The first contributor was to be my wife, Laura Rutherford Renner. Just before work on the site began, our lives were interrupted by tragedy, and Bibelot was forgotten for a while. That's where our story begins.
A year later, I found the strength to start work on the site again. However, the focus shifted. I think Bibelot is a beautiful and rare thing, not just a collection of artwork, but also a source of inspiration for others who have endured hardship. Laura is the first contributor. And she's the focus of Bibelot. She has inspired many people, including me. Her artwork has helped her to heal. And now, as an Occupational Therapist, she continues to help others.

Bibelot is evolving. As our lives move forward, I hope to update this site frequently with news, essays, links to other sites, reviews of favorite galleries, restaurants, and films. And I'd like to feature the work of area artists or those who have had healing experiences through art. If you'd like to drop us a line, please send email to renner@snip.net. Thanks. Enjoy!
