From Painless Black Wolf

>... A blast of wind ruffled through his mane, causing the gas vents behind him to flicker and leap, lighting him with lurid slashes of red earth-fire. He breathed the wind in....and smiled in the manner of Lions as the 'great darkness' stepped into the clearing, manifesting itself as Painless Wolf. Without words , the two Furiends came together and hugged fiercely, the black Wolf disengaging after long moments and saluting the tall figure of the naked Lion."First Officer Painless Wolf, reporting for duty, Captain.".... ....and in the skies above, the twinkling star that was Outpost 1 flew in silent splendour above them....<

LK turned towards the darkness behind him and gave a few soft moans and chuffs. Although Painless couldn't see what was happening, he could sense that the other lions had departed.

LK turned back to his fur friend and said, "Welcome back Painless. You have been missed. Most of all, by me."
Painless nodded and smiled.
"Let me have 'Fire' transport you on board the FireFoxx. If you just 'stepped' on board, he would set off alarms left and right and just basically go nuts."
"As you wish furiend."

LK tapped a control stud on his wristlet and said, "Captain LionkingCMSL to Fire."
"Fire here, Captain," the ship's AI responded.
"I have Painless Wolf here with me. Please transport him on board. He is to have a standard command uniform waiting for him. Mark him as off of detached duty and present. Also you are to grant him free and unrestricted access to all comand level materials so he can get caught up to present day."
"Aye sir. Anything else?"
"Yes. I'll be back on board in six hours. I want the ship ready to depart in eight hours. Transport Painless after I close the connection."
"Aye sir."
"LK out."
"FireFoxx out."

LK looked at his fur friend and said with a smile, "Don't let Fire bully you."
"I won't Cap'n," Painless said just as the transport beam took him.

***FireFoxx - eight hours later***

"Fire."
"Yes Captain?"
"Are all furs accounted for?"
"Aye sir. All furs are on board. I'm fully furred."
"Good. Sam."
"Sir?"
"Start final undocking procedures."
"Yes sir!"

With that order given, the level of activity at the Helm, Navigation, WepDefSec and Engineering consoles increased dramatically. With that increase also came running reports of system statuses from the command furs stationed there.

"Captain!"
"Yes, Sam."
"We are free and clear to navigate."
"Great. Take us back to the Nightshade. Admiral Fox is waiting for us."
"Aye, sir. The Nightshade it is."
"Hhmmph!!!"
"What was that Fire?"
"Nothing Captain."
"Don't 'Nothing Captain' me. I know you don't like the Nightshade and would rather stay out on your own, but we have orders from Admiral Fox. And you will obey those orders. Got it?"
"Aye, sir," Fire said a bit dejectedly.

LK then turned to Painless and asked, "Did you catch up on your reading?"
Painless, with a smile, replied, "Yes I did. I see that seatbelts were installed on your chair."
LK laughingly said, as he got up from his seat, "Yes, they have been. I'll be in my ready room. Painless you have the conn."
Painless, as he sat in the command chair, said, "Aye, Cap'n."

With that, the FireFoxx turned in space and headed back to Vulpinian Prime and the Nightshade.
