OUTER BANKS

while browsing the page. Located on the Outer Banks off the North Carolina coast, Hatteras Island is about 71 miles long and stretches almost 30 miles out to sea. It is the site of the "Graveyard of the Atlantic", the "Cape Hatteras Lighthouse" and many other facinating places. Everyone has a dream. We found ours on the Outer Banks of North Carolina in the winter of 1994 just after a Nor'easter had hit the coast. As we crossed the Wright Memorial Bridge into Kittyhawk, the ocean was rough, wild and beautiful! The empty beaches tugged at our heart-strings we knew this was meant for us. By Christmas, we had purchased our piece of paradise - on Hatteras Island.... There are hundreds of websites already devoted to the Outer Banks, so I won't try to duplicate their efforts. This page is just some of my personal favorite sites and other "tidbits" of information that we would like to pass along to others.
Hatteras Island is famous for Surfing, Windsurfing, Sport Fishing and it's beaches. The marinas to the north and south provide quick access to the Gulf Stream where those giant Tuna, Marlin and other giants of the sea are caught. You can keep up with the weekly Top Stories on the Outer Banks at Sentinel Online Weather? You haven't lived unless you are here when a thunderstorm blows across the Island. Check out the weather: radar , up-to-the-hour , and the Marine forecasts
Fred Hale Mystery Tour: Fred Hale, who resides in Hatteras, has written three mystery novels that all take place Hatteras Island. Read the books, then take the tour.... A visit to Hatteras Island wouldn't be complete without a trip to Ocracoke Island. Only fourteen miles long (at low tide) with one small village at the south end, it has beautiful beaches and was a haven for pirates . Be sure to visit Teach's Hole and see the Blackbeard Museum. Hatteras Island has a lot to offer. It's one of the few places in this fast moving world where you won't feel like a sardine, can drive onto the Beach and just unwind your inner clock. Each year the Island gets a little more congested, a few more more homes are built, longer lines at the Ferry Terminal. Progress! Like everything else, this won't last forever, so see her while you can.
