This monument on Oak Ridge is passed by thousands of visitors daily. Not known to most of them since it's on the side facing away from the road is a small statue of the Regiment's mascot, Sallie. She was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier who stayed with her men through bivouac and in battle. Sallie survived the battle at Gettysburg but was later killed at Hatcher's Run. While under enemy fire men of her Regiment buried her on the battlefield.
