1999 "JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM" VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL PICTURES
Please be patient. These pictures may take a while to load...
This is the story of 55 K-5th graders (and about 20 6th -12th grade helpers we call "Traveling Companions") who went on an exciting Journey July 12-16, 1999. This year we went to Bethlehem to learn about the birth of Jesus and everything in the Bible that led up to it.
Each night our journey began by going through the "Time Machine"
so that we could go back to Bible times.
After going back in time, we met a person from the Bible who told us about Jesus’ Birth. In this picture we meet Jesse: the great great great great great great great great (okay, you get the idea) grandfather of Jesus.

On another night we met that |

And learned that even little |

On Thursday night we met Mary, |
|
And then, on Friday night we got to be part of the Christmas story! |
|
After we met our Bible person at each stop, we made a craft
related to what happened there. Here Jay Ballard and his mom
Beverly smile for the camera while working on jay’s T-shirt.
And here Julia MacWilliams works on her tree key chain with
her Traveling Companion Lara Van Dusen.

After we were done with each lesson and craft, it was time to stamp
our "passport" and get ready for the next stop on the journey.
At the end of each night we had some fantastic
snacks and drinks at the "Oasis"!
And who could forget all the great singing with our Tour Guide
Pastor Bill, Mr. Gardner, and "Marvelous Matt" Garner!
On the last stop of our last night we had a giant "Christmas in July"
party and invited our parents! We also invited two families from Kosovo
who have come to our country because of the war in theirs. They told us
their story and each family gave them Christmas present, just like the
wise men gave the baby Jesus their presents!
We made so many great memories at VBS, but maybe the
thing we will remember the most is all the friends we made.

We would like to thank all the boys and girls who came to VBS, all the traveling companions, all the kitchen helpers and especially all the teachers! We had a lot of fun and learned a lot about Jesus. Next year's VBS will be Monday, July 10 through Friday, July 14 from 6:30-8:45pm each night. Our probable theme: "Journey to Rome," the adventures of the Apostle Paul. Can’t wait to see you there!
